BEAVER TOWNSHIP — A Poland man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday evening on state Route 7 near Hutter Drive, according to the Canfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Clinton Vankirk, 49, of Poland, was southbound on state Route 7 in a 2006 Ford Escape around 4:35 p.m. Friday when he was struck in the side by a northbound 2008 Chevrolet Express van driven by Sally Strom, 61, of Youngstown.

The patrol report states Strom went left of center and struck Vankirk, causing both vehicles to go off the west side of the road and overturn.

Vankirk was pronounced dead at the scene, while Strom was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, which is still under investigation, the patrol report states.

The report does not state whether either driver was wearing a seat belt.
