Police investigate gunfire on two sides of town
YOUNGSTOWN — Gunfire in the drive thru lane of a West Midlothian Boulevard business early Sunday sent the driver of the vehicle fleeing the area, but a Youngstown police report suggests that no one was injured.
Officers were called to the South Side business at 3:31 a.m. for a ShotSpotter notification and a possible shooting. When officers arrived, they did not find a victim, and no one showed up at the hospital, a Youngstown police report states.
But a witness told police that a customer was in his or her car in the drive thru when someone started shooting. The witness took cover, and when the person looked around again, the vehicle in the drive-thru was gone.
The person did see someone wearing a dark shirt, black pants and white shoes running toward Hillman Street and then back onto Midlothian Boulevard, the report states.
Officers saw bullet holes in the drive thru menu screen and northern wall of the business. While investigating, Youngstown police dispatch advised that the vehicle involved had gone to U.S. Route 224 and Market Street. Officers went there and spoke to two people who said they were in the drive thru lane when someone started shooting. They drove away, the report states.
The rear driver’s side door was stuck by the gunfire, the report states. ShotSpotter notifies the Youngstown Police Department of gunfire on the South Side.
SOUTH SCHENLEY AVENUE
At 8:56 p.m. Saturday, police were called to the 500 block of South Schenley Avenue for gunfire. A person told police he or she observed people in two vehicles shooting at each other — a white Jeep and a black car.
Officers saw bullet shell casings on the road and 22 casings were recovered as evidence, a Youngstown police report states.
A resident showed police a video of a black Chrysler 300 and a male wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts, black hat and white shoes exiting the back of the car on the passenger side and running eastbound toward Noel Drive on the West Side toward South Schenley Avenue, the report states.
Two males got in the vehicle and drove down Noel Drive, the report states. Officers checked with the hospitals, and no one with a bullet injury showed up there, the report notes.
