Pittsburgh man indicted in stabbing

Suspected in April 4 murder at Tippecanoe Road home

YOUNGSTOWN — Camilo Sotolongo-Barreto, 38, of Pittsburgh, was indicted Thursday on murder in the April 4 stabbing death of Nester Diaz, 37, in the 3700 block of Tippecanoe Road on Youngstown’s West Side. If Sotolongo-Barreto is convicted, he could get a life prison sentence.

He has been in the Mahoning County jail since June 5 and is being held on $1 million bond.

A Youngstown police report in June stated that Sotolongo-Barreto was transported by a Youngstown police officer from the Allegheny County, Pa. jail in Pittsburgh to Youngstown June 5 on a warrant from Youngstown Municipal Court on a murder charge in the case.

After he arrived in Youngstown, Sotolongo-Barreto was turned over to a Youngstown police detective at the Youngstown Police Department. Sotolongo-Barreto was later taken to the county jail.

An April Youngstown police news release stated that “Camilo Barreto” was the suspect in the stabbing death of Diaz and that Barreto was in the Allegheny County jail.

The release stated that Diaz was stabbed in the abdomen in the 3700 block of Tippecanoe Road just before 8 p.m. April 4. Officers and ambulance personnel administered aid but Diaz was pronounced dead. Detectives and crime scene personnel were called to the scene. Officers learned that Barreto was the suspect in the killing and that the stabbing resulted from a property dispute, according to a police report.

Sotolongo-Barreto was tracked to the Pittsburgh area and Youngstown police requested assistance from the Baldwin Borough Police Department, which took Barreto into custody without incident, a news release states.

Youngstown police said earlier that the suspect in the killing used to live with the victim. After the suspect showed up at the victim’s home, the two argued, leading to the stabbing. The suspect then fled, police said.
