More West Nile Virus mosquitoes caught

A week after mosquitoes with the West Nile Virus were caught in traps in Poland Township, Mahoning County Public Health reported more were caught in traps in Austintown and Beaver townships.

No human cases of the virus have been reported in Mahoning County.

Public health on Wednesday, as it did last week, warned that the virus could be present in mosquito populations throughout the county. The virus is more prevalent in mosquitoes in the late summer and early fall, according to public health officials.

Early symptoms of West Nile Virus include nausea, fever, vomiting and headaches, with more serious symptoms causing drowsiness, stiff neck, disorientation, tremors and possibly seizures.
