Man stabbed while trying to break up fight involving juveniles
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN — A male who tried to break up a fight on Youngstown’s South Side Tuesday afternoon said a juvenile “produced a knife and stabbed him.”
A Youngstown police report states that officers were called to South and East Lucius avenues at 1:18 p.m. for a stabbing and found the victim, who said he saw a large group of juveniles fighting, so he tried to “speak with the children and break the fight up” when one of the juveniles stabbed him.
The man was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he was in stable condition later.
Just before 3 p.m., after the officer writing the original report completed the report, he learned that a juvenile boy walked into the police station and confessed to the stabbing, the report states.
The juvenile later spoke with detectives at the police station after he and his mother gave permission for the interview, the report states. The boy was later taken to the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center on a charge of felonious assault.
The report does not state where the victim suffered the stab wound nor the victim’s age.
