Hubbard mayor recognizes lives lost in plane crash
HUBBARD — The city’s mayor recognized the impact several residents who died in Sunday morning’s plane crash had on their community.
Hubbard Mayor Ben Kyle explained the Weller family has been a “cornerstone of the valley” for decades, noting the family’s hardworking, devoted, faithful and kind nature.
“The Hubbard community has had a long-standing connection with the Weller Family and Liberty Steel. They have had a lasting positive impact on this community,” wrote Kyle in a Tuesday Facebook post. “It was our honor to help with the Beacon of the Valley 5K in 2024 to raise money for children in the area. Jim Jr. and Ronnie, John and Maria (Weller) will be missed but never forgotten.”
Kyle requested the community keep his cousin, Katie, Jimmy Weller and their children in their thoughts in prayers, adding that their hearts were heavy for the families of everyone lost.
He reminisced on his family’s history and connections with the Weller family — which dated back to 1969.
“My mom, Jan, was hired as one of the first employees at Liberty Steel. Over time, my dad, Tim, delivered steel for years, and my uncles, Tom and Bill McCullough, spent their entire careers working for the Wellers,” Kyle wrote. “As a kid, I remember washing trucks and helping out however I could in the race shop. My mom still smiles when she talks about babysitting Jim Jr. and all the great times spent with the family.”
“Jim and Ronnie, Johnny and Maria — it was always a joy to see you. Your warmth, faith, and love for your family left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know you. Your legacy will live on in the lives you touched,” he added.
