YLive expands to two-day event
YLive will become a two-day event in September.
JAC Live announced Friday it is expanding the outdoor concert in downtown Youngstown at Wean Park, adding a second show with a different lineup on Sept. 26 to pair with previously announced Tim McGraw on Sept. 27.
“It will make it more like a festival,” JAC Chief Operating Officer Ken Bigley said.
The Sept. 26 headliner will be announced Wednesday.
For years, Bigley and JAC President Eric Ryan have talked about the advantages of hosting two concerts as part of YLive. It takes significant time and expense to transform the park into a concert venue — bringing in a large stage, sound and lighting equipment and digital video screens; setting up thousands of chairs for the reserved seating; installing temporary fencing around the site, etc. Spreading those costs over two ticketed events is more advantageous.
Bigley said back-to-back shows also will have a greater economic impact for downtown and greater Youngstown as well. They anticipate many concert goers will attend both nights, which means those out-of-town visitors will be staying in hotels, eating at area restaurants and shopping or visiting other attractions before and after the shows.
The McGraw concert originally was announced for 2024, but the show was postponed until this year after the Realty Tower explosion and other infrastructure disruptions downtown.
An announcement on who will be joining McGraw for that show also is forthcoming.
YLive started in 2017 at Youngstown State University’s Stambaugh Stadium with the Zac Brown Band as the initial headliner, followed by Florida-Georgia Line in 2018 and Blake Shelton in 2019.
After a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, JAC moved the event downtown to Wean Park, located between the Covelli Centre and the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre with Luke Bryan in 2022 and Kid Rock in 2023.
