Woman arraigned on felonious assault in East Side shooting

YOUNGSTOWN — Breasia A. Skinner of Liberty was taken to jail early Friday after allegedly shooting another woman in the knee on Eastway Drive on Youngstown’s East Side Thursday night.

She was released from the jail Saturday after posting a $30,000 bond, according to jail records.

A Youngstown police report states that officers were called to Eastway Drive at 11:51 p.m. for a shooting and found a woman on the curb outside of an apartment building with a gunshot wound that entered at her knee and traveled down her leg, but did not exit.

An officer applied a tourniquet to the leg at 11:57 p.m. The victim gave police the name of the woman who came there in a white Hyundai Sonata and shot her, the report states.

She said the woman had been “fighting with her all day” and that it stemmed from a 5:45 p.m. incident involving $15 and a few juveniles. The victim of the gunshot wound was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

While an officer was typing the report on the shooting, Liberty police contacted Youngstown police to say that they had taken the suspect into custody at her home on Holly Drive in Liberty Township.

Officers met Liberty officers and took custody of Skinner, 27, then took her to the Youngstown Police Department to be tested for gunshot residue. Then she was taken to the Mahoning County jail on a felonious assault charge, the report states.

Skinner was arraigned on the felonious assault charge in Youngstown Municipal Court Friday and returns to court at 9:45 a.m. June 5 for a preliminary hearing, court records show.

She also was arraigned Friday on a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge stemming from incidents Thursday, apparently one on Dupont Street on the North Side in which a woman known by another name was accused of assaulting a woman whose name was blacked out in the Youngstown police report. Skinner also returns to court on that charge June 5.

The victim in that report had scratches on her face and neck as a result of a confrontation between the two women that was reported at 5:11 p.m.
