Sheriff, Austintown police awarded state crime grants

The state awarded $35,000 to the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office and $14,279 to the Austintown Police Department in grants to help implement violent crime reduction strategies.

Overall, 48 law enforcement agencies on Friday were awarded more than a total of $3 million in funding from the 14th and latest round of the Ohio Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program.

Since its launch in 2021, more than $84 million has been awarded to more than 200 law enforcement agencies for targeted programs and enhanced technology that aid in preventing and solving incidents of violent crime.

Funding will help pay for investigative overtime costs, new technology to support crime reduction, targeted patrols in high-crime areas and other initiatives.
