Man wanted in Motel 6 assault
Staff report
LIBERTY — Police are looking for a Youngstown man accused of assaulting a woman at a motel Sunday afternoon.
A warrant was issued Monday morning by Girard Municipal Court Judge Jeffrey Adler for Christian Barrett, 25, on charges of robbery, felonious assault, theft and assault, as well as stopping after an accident on a place other than roads or highways.
According to a police report, officers were dispatched to Room 310 at the Motel 6 on Belmont Avenue about a person being run over by a vehicle, with county dispatchers saying that a woman was struck by an Audi that drove off in an unknown direction.
The reporting officer was directed to the woman, who was wrapped in a blanket and crying and shaking. The officer noted that her left ear was bleeding and she had scratch marks on her upper left arm and shoulder, which were documented.
According to the report, the woman told the officer that she had rented a room with Barrett, who wasn’t staying with her for the evening, but he later knocked and attempted to gain entry through a window. The woman opened the room’s door, and Barrett allegedly slapped her in the face with an open palm.
The woman told officers Barrett took the keys to an Audi and began to leave. She said she attempted to stop him while yelling for help. Barrett started the vehicle and began to drive while the woman hung onto the steering wheel, dragging her through the motel’s parking lot.
Officers reviewed the motel’s security footage, which showed Barrett attempting to enter the room through the window as the woman claimed, and him slapping her multiple times after asking for her phone, according to the report.
The report states another angle showed Barrett slapping the woman in the parking lot, as well as him getting in the vehicle and driving off with the woman on the steering wheel. He stopped momentarily to pick up his phone and drove off in an unknown direction.
Officers registered the Audi in LEADS as stolen and temporary warrants were issued for Barrett. They attempted to obtain a number for the vehicle’s original owner, but the woman couldn’t provide one because she believed her phone was still in the car.
