Man charged with felonious assault after intentional crash
YOUNGSTOWN — D’Andre A. Boykin was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Youngstown Municipal Court on two counts of felonious assault after a Youngstown police officer working a side job saw him drive a vehicle into another vehicle containing his ex-girlfriend and another woman in an apartment parking lot.
If Boykin is convicted of the charges, he could get about 16 years in prison.
The officer was at the ESA Park Apartments on Kendis Circle when he saw a Ford Escape occupied by two women stationary in a large parking lot.
Then a man in a Grand Prix pulled into the lot, and the driver of the Ford put her car in reverse, saying “no, no, no,” a Youngstown police report states.
The officer put on his cruiser’s lights and sirens to alert the driver, the report states. But the man, later identified as Boykin, 30, “ignored my lights and sirens and used his auto to strike the Ford, causing damage to the Ford and Grand Prix,” the report states.
The officer then moved his cruiser behind the Grand Prix and activated lights and siren again. Boykin, the driver of the Grand Prix, was then ordered out of the car and arrested.
The women said they were not injured. The driver said Boykin was her ex-boyfriend and she wanted to press charges against him. She said she and Boykin were having an altercation over infidelity.
The felonious assault charges were filed for attempting to cause serious physical harm, the report states. Boykin was taken to the Mahoning County jail.
He returns to court for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. June 25, court records show.
