Hernandez: Insight wants to reopen Trumbull Regional, Hillside hospitals

WARREN — Lawyers representing Insight Hospitals are seeking to have a roundtable meeting with Trumbull County commissioners and Warren city leaders to gauge support for them to reopen Trumbull Regional Medical Center and Hillside hospitals, according to Commission Chairman Rick Hernandez.

The commissioner is hoping to arrange a meeting that would include Warren Mayor Doug Franklin, other pertinent city and community officials and the commissioners within the next several weeks. It will not be next week because commissioners Denny Malloy and Hernandez will be out of town.

Hernandez said he was contacted Friday by an attorney from Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff, which is representing Insight, who told him they want to reopen both medical facilities.

“They said they are working with Sen. Bernie Moreno, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and others at the state level,” Hernandez said. “The state is willing to assist them in any of their needs. They’ve applied for proper licensing. They were under the licensing of Steward, which killed them. They sold them under the bus. They received no money from Medicare and Medicaid.”

The hospital representatives told Hernandez their plan is for the long term and they believe they can run the hospitals efficiently. The chain received $200,000 last Friday, according to Hernandez.

“I am cautiously optimistic,” Hernandez said.

Commissioner Tony Bernard said Insight officials told Malloy and himself two-and-a-half months ago they would be ready to reopen if they receive Medicare and Medicare licenses.

“I was told the licenses are forthcoming,” Hernandez said. “They should be receiving them soon.”

Malloy said he was told by Insight officials the hospitals were profitable.

“They were making a million dollars a month, if they were able to collect the money,” he said. “But they were not able to collect the money.”

Hernandez said Insight officials were not requesting anything but the support of the commissioners and other local leaders.

“I would reach out to Sen. Moreno’s and Sen. (Jon) Husted’s offices,” Hernandez said.

Starting at $3.23/week.
