Boardman man pleads guilty in March shooting at Liberty bus stop
WARREN — A 31-year-old Boardman man pleaded guilty to multiple charges stemming from a March shooting at a Liberty Township bus stop.
According to a Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office news release, Dennis Sklenchar, of Southern Boulevard, entered guilty pleas to attempted felonious assault, a third-degree felony with a mandatory three-year gun specification, third-degree having a weapon while under disability, third-degree tampering with evidence and a fourth-degree charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
The pleas came just days before his scheduled trial Monday.
According to prosecutors, Sklenchar fired a Sig Sauer 9 mm semiautomatic pistol at a man at the bus stop, with a bullet passing through the victim’s jacket. After the shooting, Sklenchar allegedly picked up the shell casing and fled the scene. Police noted that Sklenchar was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a 2013 conviction for drug trafficking in Mahoning County.
Sklenchar has been ordered to report to probation for a background investigation before sentencing. Any prison term imposed will be served consecutively to the mandatory three-year gun specification.
