New Castle woman dies in Monday crash near state line

PULASKI TOWNSHIP — Catherine Rodgers, 60, of New Castle, Pa., was killed in a 6:45 a.m. two-vehicle crash Monday on U.S. Route 422 at Marr Road.
The crash occurred just east of the Ohio-Pennsylvania line but was initially thought to have occurred inside the Ohio line, which is Coitsville Township, east of Campbell.
Troopers from the New Castle Barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police were called to the crash at 9:03 a.m. to assist troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and learned that the crash happened in Pennsylvania.
The driver of the other vehicle, Kimberly Thomas, 43, of Lowellville, was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for her injuries. Rodgers was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Pennsylvania State Police report states that Rodgers was traveling east on Route 422, and Thomas was traveling west. Rodgers attempted to turn left onto Marr Road in front of Thomas, and Thomas was unable to avoid the collision and struck Rodgers in the passenger side. Rodgers was not wearing a seat belt. Thomas was wearing a seat belt and suffered suspected minor injuries, the report states.
The Pennsylvania State Police were assisted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Pulaski Township Fire Department, Hubbard Fire Department, Mahoning County Coroner’s Office and Randy’s Towing.
