Girard student injured during Prom Promise accident

GIRARD — A police cruiser bumped into a Girard High School student during a school event Thursday.

Superintendent Bryan O’Hara said the unidentified student suffered a minor injury. The student was role playing at a Prom Promise presentation.

“I want to inform you that during this morning’s ‘Mock Crash Simulation’ at Girard High School — an annual event that highlights the dangers of drinking and driving — a participating student sustained a minor injury,” O’Hara wrote in a statement on the district’s social media site. “The student is receiving appropriate medical attention and their family has been notified. Additionally, support has been made available for students and staff.”

Safety officials said the male teen was on the ground as part of the demonstration when he was bumped by the cruiser. He was taken to a local hospital to be checked as a precaution.
