River Rock season features 12 concerts

WARREN — A couple of new headliners and several first-time opening acts will come to the Warren Community Amphitheatre for the 2025 River Rock at the Amp concert series.

Sunrise Entertainment announced two larger shows — a Michael Jackson vs. Prince tribute band face-off with Who’s Band and the Ultimate Tribute on June 21 and a season finale with Pink Floyd tribute Wish You Were Here on Aug 23 — earlier this month with the other 10 acts revealed today.

One of the new headliners this season will be the Alice Cooper tribute Coop’s Nightmare on Aug. 16.

“He was at Lorain last year, and he was really great,” said Ken Haidaris, president of Sunrise Entertainment. “With him and (AC/DC tribute) Dirty Deeds, it’s just a good rock ‘n’ roll night. It’s a lot of fun, and it’s a visual show. Nightmare has so much props and stuff on stage, you know? It’s an Alice Cooper-type show.”

The other first-timer is 7 Summers, a Morgan Wallen tribute. He is one of two country shows in the lineup. Wallen has a younger country following, Haidaris said, and it was a way to appeal to a younger demographic than the classic rock acts that dominate the schedule.

Another act designed to appeal to a younger audience is the Boy Band Review, which performs hits by such groups as ‘NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, Jonas Brothers and One Direction. The group is paired with Disco Inferno on Aug. 2.

“Disco Inferno is always a perennial favorite, and then with the Boy Band Review, it’s just fun,” Haidaris said. “It will be a fun night of dancing.”

Disco Inferno isn’t the only River Rock veteran being paired with an opening act making its first appearance. Led Zeppelin tribute ZOSO will be preceded by Paradise, a Meat Loaf tribute act, on Aug. 15. Forever Seger is paired with the Cars tribute Moving in Stereo on July 26.

The Tom Petty tribute King’s Highway will open the season on May 31 with local band RDNA opening.

Haidaris picked King’s Highway to open for a couple of reasons. Unlike some River Rock acts, who are based across the country, King’s Highway is from northeast Ohio, which means Sunrise Entertainment can avoid some of the added expenses for airfare and hotel accommodations when local weather still can be unpredictable.

“But they’re a great band and super great guys, and everybody loves Tom Petty,” Haidaris said. “The last time we had them, it was a really good crowd. And you forget how many great songs he had. Every song is a hit. And we’re never seeing Tom Petty again.”

Concertgoers also will see some changes to the venue itself, like a food court on the Perkins Park side of the amphitheater, a permanent structure for the soundboard in the seating area and cosmetic and structural work on the amphitheater building. Efforts also are underway to improve drainage at the city-owned venue alongside the Mahoning River.

“We’ll be operable,” Haidaris said. “Will it be perfect the first two, three weeks? Depending on the weather, maybe not, but it’ll be close. We worked around the bathroom (construction). We make it work, and the city’s done a great job with it.”

Starting at $3.23/week.
