Liberty police issue lookout notice for city man following domestic violence report
LIBERTY — Police issued a “be on the lookout” notification to surrounding law enforcement agencies for a Youngstown man involved in a domestic incident with his ex-girlfriend over the weekend.
A bench warrant was issued for Donald McGhee, 28, on strangulation and domestic violence charges in Girard Municipal Court by Judge Jeffery Adler Monday morning.
According to a police report, an officer responded to a report at the station, where a woman explained that a physical altercation happened between her and her now ex-boyfriend, McGhee, after she found a video on his phone of him engaging in sexual activity with another woman.
When she confronted him about the video, McGhee denied it, but became irate when the woman showed him the clip and pointed out the date and time stamp.
The police report states the woman said McGhee then tackled her, proceeding to choke her to the point where she said she “nearly lost consciousness.” The woman alleged that McGhee then sat on her and refused to let her up, saying she was being “dramatic.” When she was able to get up, she told police McGhee threatened to kill her and began punching her in the back of the head.
According to the report, when the woman told McGhee she wanted to leave, he prevented her from doing so until she deleted the video, sitting on her legs for approximately 30 minutes. He also told the woman that she would have to “beat him up” for her phone when she attempted to access it to call 911.
The woman said she began loading items into her car, and McGhee pleaded with her to come back into the apartment, saying he started apologizing but refused to return her cellphone or iPad.
The woman said she agreed to give McGhee another chance, and he unloaded her items from her vehicle and they went back into their apartment.
She said she reloaded her items into her vehicle at 12:30 a.m. and left the residence, telling the officer she wished to pursue criminal charges against McGhee.
The officer noted visible marks on the woman’s face and neck, which were photographed. A temporary warrant was entered against McGhee and surrounding law enforcement agencies were notified to be on the lookout for his vehicle, a dark blue Jeep Compass.
