City police serve search warrant at home near fatal child shooting
YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown police served a search warrant on a home and shed on Pointview Avenue on the South Side on Wednesday, near the home where a 3-year-old boy was shot Monday and later died.
Detectives and patrol officers were inside the home and shed next to 2005 Pointview Ave., where 3-year-old Keilub Paul was shot about 5 p.m. Monday. The boy later died at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Pointview Avenue is two blocks north of Midlothian Boulevard, just east of Interstate 680.
Two men in the home were handcuffed and placed in a cruiser while police searched the home.
Lt. Mohammad Awad of the Detective Bureau said investigators are looking for evidence related to the boy’s death.
Awad said Tuesday the investigation is in the early stages, and cooperation has been lacking among people who may have been inside the home.
When Awad was asked Tuesday whether the death appears to be a homicide, he said the police department awaits completion of the autopsy and will consult with prosecutors before making any determinations.
