WHAT: Board of Education meeting Monday.

The board:
• Accepted the following donations: $2,378 from Mac.Bid to Eagle Essentials, Food Pantry and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS); $2,000 from the Cody Pitts Foundation, $500 from Hubbard Community Fund Co. and $100 from Marc and Heather Means to the district’s food pantry; $250 from Simco Management to PBIS; $350 from Scott and Sandra Kernen to Future Educators of America; $1,000 from Marsh Development Inc. and the Hubbard High School Hall of Fame, $200 from Anthony Carsone and family, and $100 from an anonymous donor to the district’s athletic department.
• Approved scrapping a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander.
• Accepted custodian Danielle Brannan’s resignation effective March 17.
• Accepted Food Service Supervisor Diane McAllen’s resignation for retirement purposes, effective July 1.
• Approved family and medical leave for Transportation Supervisor Mona Jones and appointed Donald Stanislaw as her acting replacement on an as-needed basis, with no expectancy of continued employment.
• Approved family and medical leave for cleaner Cynthia Bayus.
• Approved family and medical leave for teacher Deborah Pysher.
• Approved unpaid parental leave for teacher Kelsey Calascibetta.
• Approved not renewing 31 2024-25 athletic supplemental coaches.
• Approved Nathan Wilson as a volunteer middle school track coach for the 2024-25 athletic season.
• Approved 20 coaches for the 2025-26 athletic season.
• Accepted Aquatic Fitness Instructor Lillian Sinopoli’s resignation effective April 1.

WHAT: City council meetings Feb. 18 and March 3
PRESENT: Bonnie Viele, Cathy Cummings, Mike Kerr, Jerry Crowe, Bill Williams and Mayor Ben Kyle
ABSENT: Ryan Hallapy, Mike Mogg and Robin Zambrini.
Council:
• Heard from Kyle of plans to dedicate a bridge this year as “First Responders Bridge.”
• Heard from Crowe that plans are to pave sections of Elmwood Drive and Roosevelt Drive. Elmwood Drive is an Ohio Department of Transportation project at a cost of $575,000, with ODOT providing $460,000 and the local share being $115,000. Roosevelt Drive, which goes into Harding Park, will be a joint project with the city and township at a cost of $395,000, with the city’s share being $290,000 and the township covering the rest.
• Requested legislation be prepared for the March 17 meeting to enter into an agreement with University Electric Inc. to acquire two new generators for the wastewater treatment plant at a cost of $964,760. Kerr said $300,000 received from the county commissioners will be used for the purchase.
• Were informed the joint fire district is looking into a feasibility study of building a new fire station on the current location.
• Will have a resolution prepared for a future meeting to object to Senate Bill 56 with the state wanting to take all the sales taxes generated from the local marijuana dispensary. Mogg said previously it was proposed the municipalities where the businesses are located would receive 15% of the taxes.
• Heard from Kyle the city received a Gotta GoGreen grant for lighting by the recycling center adjacent to the fire station.
• Named Auditor Michael Villano to the joint economic development board.
• Reported a new grocery store, Price Cutters, has opened at the McConnell Plaza.
• Will have a joint meeting with Hubbard Township trustees May 5.
• Announced the planning and zoning board will address gun sale business in residential areas 6 p.m. Tuesday.
