WHAT: Township trustees meeting Jan. 21.
PRESENT: Dave Tomaino, Ed Villone and Wendy DiBernardi.
Trustees:
● Heard the annual report by Zoning Inspector Mike Kurilla, who said the township had $6.7 million in new construction last year.
● Heard the annual report by fire Chief Kenneth Oles, who said the department responded to 584 calls in 2024, which was a record.
● Heard the annual report by police Chief Charles Van Dyke, who said the department responded to 12,070 calls in 2024.
● Heard the annual report by fire Lt. Dave Dunn, who also is the cemetery / road / recycle coordinator. He said the road department ordered 50 tons of road salt and used half in the first three weeks of the year.
● Gave approval to advertise for four full-time police officers.
● Heard a presentation by Troy Rhodes of Ohio Edison regarding available safe housing during lengthy power outages from extreme cold weather.
● Tabled for further discussion the implementation of the police officer tier / step wage system increase.
● Approved replacement of a rugged portable police computer at $2,877, and a zoning computer at $1,630.
● Approved the upgrades for the police radios at $300 each.
● Tabled for further discussion the idea of using a key fob transponder locking system for township buildings.
● Approved Lexipol Services’ basic package for fire department procedures, policy and training at a cost of $12,514.50.
● Approved Oles to attend fire inspection class at $300.
● Approved the purchase of a Hummingbird Helix 12 sonar model from Bass Pro Shops to replace the sonar system on the B500 at the first responder discount price of $1,449.
● Plan to revisit how to efficiently spend the $3,500 balance from the paved parking lot with quotes to be sought for tree removal or the water problem at the administration building.
● Set the next trustees meeting for 7 p.m. Feb. 11
