Man faces domestic violence charge
LIBERTY — A court date was set for a man who pleaded not guilty to a domestic violence charge Wednesday.
Marcus Scissum, 44, was charged after being arrested by Liberty police Tuesday morning.
According to the police report, officers were dispatched to a Fifth Avenue residence regarding a man who allegedly assaulted his mother. Officers were told he had officer safety alerts on him in regard to being combative.
The victim, 78-year-old Joe Ann Scissum, said her son became agitated after she wouldn’t tell him who she was on the phone with, taking her phone out of her hand and throwing it on the floor, then throwing her on a bed. Officers told her he was going to be arrested and charged with domestic violence due to her statements.
The report states officers attempted to contact Marcus Scissum, who became verbally noncompliant, but eventually calmed him down and placed him in custody.
He was released from jail Wednesday but is set to appear back in court Feb. 17, court records show.
