Man charged in South Side homicide to be arraigned today
YOUNGSTOWN — Kenneth Carter, 34, who was taken into custody Monday in the parking lot of Youngstown Municipal Court on a charge of complicity to commit murder in the Friday night shooting death of Resean Graham, 42, at a home on Griselda Avenue on the South Side, will be arraigned today.
Carter’s video arraignment on the first-degree felony is set for 1:30 p.m. If convicted, Carter could get 15 years to life in prison, according to court records.
A Youngstown police report states that the police department issued an arrest warrant for Carter on Monday and asked the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force to find and arrest Carter. The task force found Carter the same day.
After his apprehension, Carter was taken into the courthouse, where he had a hearing before being transported to the Mahoning County jail.
A Monday night Youngstown Police press release stated that Carter had been charged in the Griselda homicide.
Youngstown officers were called to Griselda at 7:36 p.m. Friday for a person who was shot, according to a news release. Officers saw the man lying near the front doorway with multiple gunshot wounds to the body and began life-saving measures until the arrival of ambulance personnel. However, Graham died at the scene.
It was the second homicide in the city this year with the first being the late Jan. 10 shooting death of Brandon Ogden, 27, who was found in the 2500 block of Ohio Avenue on the North Side after police were called there shortly after 11 p.m. for a man who had been shot and a suspect who fled the scene.
Lake Milton police arrested Jonathan S. Simmons, 29, later that night when he was pulled over for a traffic violation and officers learned Simmons was wanted by Youngstown police in the Ogden homicide. Simmons was jailed early Jan. 11.
Simmons is in the Mahoning County jail in lieu of a $1 million bond. He was set for a preliminary hearing in Youngstown Municipal Court last week, but it was reset for 9:30 a.m. Thursday because the court was closed because of weather conditions Jan. 21, the day it was supposed to take place.
