About 10 shots fired at South Side gas station
YOUNGSTOWN — An employee of the Shell gas station, 504 E. Midlothian Blvd., said they were “shocked” when the sound of gunfire erupted at the gas station at 11:36 p.m. Friday.
When the worker realized what the sound was, the worker “ducked behind the corner and heard eight to nine more gunshots,” according to a Youngstown police report. Officers were alerted to the gunfire by the police department’s ShotSpotter notification system, which alerts police to gunfire on the South Side. No injuries were mentioned in the police report.
When officers arrived, they spoke to the employee and found a bullet shell casing in the middle of Midlothian Boulevard and a deformed bullet near the building, the report states. A bullet also apparently hit the brick near a door to the gas station, the report adds.
A witness told police that a black Dodge Charger was at the gas pumps for 10 to 15 minutes, and no other vehicles had entered the parking lot. The witness said he or she believed the bullets had come from a vehicle on East Midlothian Boulevard.
After the gunshots were fired, both vehicles left the area traveling west on East Midlothian, the report states.
Officers were not able to view store surveillance video at the time they were there Friday, but they were advised to check Monday.
