Gunfire disrupts gathering

Unwelcome visitor fired shots inside, outside home

YOUNGSTOWN — A Thanksgiving Day gathering on Lake Drive on the South Side was interrupted by an unwelcome visitor who fired his gun inside the house and again at the outside of the house, according to a report.

No one was injured, but there were about a dozen people inside the house at the time, including several children.

Youngstown police were called by multiple people to the home, which is on the west side of Glenwood Avenue at 8:55 p.m. Thursday for gunfire.

Once there, officers were advised that the home had been struck by the bullets. The people in the house said they were having a family gathering when the suspect arrived about 8 p.m., and he had a handgun. The victims said they were concerned about the children in the house and told the man to put his gun in the car.

But the man instead entered the kitchen area where the children were eating. Adults escorted the children out of the kitchen to the second floor because of the man with the gun yelling at the victims with the gun in his hand, the report states.

The man then fired the gun four times into the ceiling of the kitchen before leaving the house and walking to a car parked in the middle of the road on nearby Volney Road, the report states.

The man then fired about five to seven shots from the road toward the house before driving away. The victims were described in the report as having been in various parts of the house. Police officers reported finding four bullet holes in the ceiling of the kitchen and four spent bullet shell casings on the floor.

They also found seven spent bullet shell casings on Volney Road, southwest of the home. Officers reported that they found no exterior damage to the home. None of the people in the home were injured, the report stated. As of Friday morning, the man named as a suspect in the report was not listed as an inmate in the Mahoning County jail, and Youngstown Municipal Court was not open Thursday or Friday.
