Woman indicted on many charges after Youngstown crash

YOUNGSTOWN — Nicole M. Williams, 43, of McGuffey Road, was indicted Thursday on charges of assault, obstructing official business, resisting arrest, two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse or a combination of them — OVI; one count of failure to stop after an accident; and two counts of operating a motor vehicle or agricultural tractor without being in control of it.
It was a superseding indictment. She was indicted Sept. 19 on similar but not identical charges.
The charges stem from a 10 p.m. Aug. 17 traffic crash at McGuffey Road and Donation Avenue on the East Side in which a crash report and a police report stated that Williams tried to drive around another car and hit the front end of the first car.
Willams then tried to leave the scene, the report states. When officers spoke to Williams, she denied being in an accident. Officers suspected that Williams was impaired because of slurred speech and glossy eyes, the report states. Officers asked her for information, but she seemed not to understand. Officers asked her to get out of the car. But when Williams got out, she stumbled and couldn’t stand straight. An officer tried to give her a field sobriety test but she failed them all and was arrested, the report states.
She later tested at 0.216, more than two times the legal limit to drive in Ohio of 0.08. Williams refused to sign her charges, so officers tried to put Williams in handcuffs, but she “kept resisting, so officers took her to the ground,” the report states. While she was on the ground, she kicked an officer on her hand and hip, according to the report.
