Three men stable after shooting on expressway

YOUNGSTOWN — Three people suffered gunshot wounds, and a car flipped over onto its hood on the Madison Avenue Expressway just west of Belmont Avenue Saturday night, according to a Youngstown police report.

Officers were dispatched to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital at 5:47 p.m. for multiple shooting victims being transported there. All three people were in stable condition.

While on their way to the hospital, officers were told to respond to the expressway for a possible shooting scene. They found a car on its hood, unoccupied with multiple bullet holes.

Lt. Mohammad Awad of the Youngstown Police Detective Division said Monday that because of the lack of cooperation in the case and some “obvious untruthfulness,” it’s difficult to say what occurred. The report was captioned a felonious assault / shooting.

The incident occurred just before the 6 p.m. kickoff of the Youngstown State University football game at Stambaugh Stadium, which is about a mile from where the car was found flipped over.

Starting at $2.99/week.
