Robbery may have preceded Poland crash
POLAND TOWNSHIP — Police are still investigating a crash that damaged a house on Clingan Road on Tuesday evening.
Poland Township police Chief Greg Wilson said officers were called to 6790 Clingan Road just before 7 p.m. after two vehicles crashed into the front of the house, severely damaging the porch and possibly causing structural damage to the home.
The involved parties, despite suffering minor injuries from the crash, began to fight with each other in the yard.
“At some point, somebody yelled that someone had a gun on them, and that’s when everybody started to run, and we arrived shortly after that,” Wilson said.
No weapon was found, but detectives searched the area Tuesday night and continued to search Wednesday morning.
Four people were taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment, and police interviewed them while they were there. The individuals all were released from the hospital.
Wilson said statements from the witnesses suggest that two of the people may have robbed the other two and fled.
“Every indication is that the alleged victims were chasing the alleged suspects and at some point there was contact on Clingan, which caused both vehicles to go into the front yard and crash into the house,” Wilson said.
Wilson said the involved parties included a juvenile, an 18-year-old, two in their early 20s and one older adult.
Wilson said the incident likely began at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on Center Road. He said the parties have stated they are unacquainted but police believe they do know each other. He said they are still trying to determine what may have been stolen.
“There’s some video evidence that we’re waiting to get before we send this to the prosecutor’s office,” he said.
Struthers prosecutor John Zomoida will make the final determination on what charges are filed against whom, but Wilson said all parties could face charges for property damage.
