Playground work completed in Campbell

CAMPBELL — City council has approved legislation to reimburse a national commercial playground company for most of the expenses related to a major addition recently finished at Roosevelt Park.

San Francisco-based GameTime installed the added pieces of equipment, estimated at $45,000, to the playground next to the community center.

The work included a playground set and installation, along with wood fibers for added safety.

Specifically, it entailed four swing sets — two each for children and infants, Councilman Steve Cappitte, D-2nd Ward, said, adding sliding boards are included.

Roosevelt Park is in the city’s 2nd Ward.

Aqua Ohio Inc. donated about $15,000 toward the project, and the city will pay GameTime the remaining amount, Cappitte said.

“They do a fabulous job,” he said, referring to GameTime. “It was probably done in about four days.”

The addition also has a practical component, because parents who use the community center for events and other purposes will have their children nearby. Previously, the youngsters had to use a playground in another part of the large park, Cappitte said.

Council also passed legislation approving nearly $53,000 to #1 Cochran of Boardman for a 2024 Ford F-150 truck to be added to the Campbell Police Department.

Similarly, an additional $20,000 was approved for Tactical Protection & Surveillance LLC of Youngstown regarding outfitting the truck with necessary equipment.

Police Chief Kevin Sferra said he hopes the vehicle will be ready and fully operational within the next few weeks.

Among other things, the truck will be used to tow or transport dirt bikes and motorcycles found off the side of roads, Sferra said.

The vehicle also will be equipped with a radio camera and other necessary equipment, and it will be a needed addition to the city’s fleet of marked and unmarked cars, he said.

Also at the session, Mayor Bryan K. Tedesco announced a one-hour Trunk or Treat event starting at 4 p.m. Oct. 31 at Roosevelt Park. After that, regular trick or treating will take place from 5 to 7 p.m.

Starting at $3.23/week.
