Man indicted in Youngstown burglary

YOUNGSTOWN — Charleston A. Jennings, 40, of Cambridge Avenue, has been indicted on charges of attempted aggravated burglary, two counts of intimidation, two counts of retaliation and single counts of obstructing official business and resisting arrest in a Sept. 16 incident on Oregon Avenue on Youngstown’s West Side.

His indictment alleges that he tried to break into a structure when a person was present in the home to commit a murder. Youngstown police were called to the site just after midnight for a fight and found Jennings screaming at a person, saying “I do not care about the police. I will kill you,” according to a police report.

Officers tried to put Jennings into handcuffs, but he resisted. Eventually they got him handcuffed. The alleged victim of the threats said he or she was there to pick up his or her children. The victim also told police that when Jennings got to the home, he was kicking the door trying to get inside and making threats. Officers noted that Jennings also threatened multiple times to kill officers.

Jennings was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment; he had been hitting his head against the window while inside a cruiser, officers reported. He was later taken to jail.

If convicted, Jennings could get more than 10 years in prison.
