Austintown man sentenced to 7-9 years in prison for assault of woman he knew

YOUNGSTOWN — Charles Jennings, 32, of Woodhurst Drive, Austintown, was sentenced to seven to nine years in prison Monday after pleading guilty earlier to felonious assault with a gun specification.

The sentence was jointly recommended by prosecutors and the defense, and was approved by Judge Thomas Pokorny, who was filling in for Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge R. Scott Krichbaum.

The indictment against Jennings states the offenses took place May 3 in Youngstown. According to the prosecutor’s office, the victim is the mother of his child, and they used to be in a relationship. He assaulted her at her house, breaking her nose and then shot her in the arm, according to the office. She survived the shooting.

Other charges against Jennings were dismissed in exchange for his guilty plea to felonious assault.
