36-year-old accused of assaulting woman at Boardman theater
BOARDMAN — A man accused of assaulting his girlfriend in front of a local theater is facing charges.
James Artrup, 36, whose address is a room at the Baymont by Wyndham Motel on South Avenue, was arraigned Thursday afternoon in Mahoning County Boardman Court on a charge of domestic violence after his arrest Wednesday in front of Regal Cinema South.
A police report states officers responded to a call about a man “beating on a woman” in the parking lot at the theater before walking toward the Holiday Inn.
A witness at the Baymont told police a man screamed at a woman and threw his skateboard at her twice, the report states. He sat down in the grass outside the theater and she walked toward a nearby convenience store.
The report states the witness told police the woman returned, handed the man the skateboard and what appeared to be a bag of food, which the man threw back at her. The man punched the woman until she fell down, the report states.
The report states the man told police he shoved his girlfriend after she threw soup in his face. The woman said he shoved her, but said she did not want to press charges, the report states. The woman told police the man was angry because they have been staying at the Baymont for several days and the motel staff no longer want him living there. She did not say why he is unwelcome there.
A front desk agent at the motel said the woman asked them not to allow the man into her room, because they had been fighting, and because the room is registered in her name. They honored her request and prevented him from entering the facility, the report states.
Artrup’s arraignment was set for 4:30 p.m. The court website was not updated before the close of business Thursday.
