Youngstown State University enrollment for fall 2024 has significantly increased from 2023, according to a news release sent Tuesday from Becky Rose, YSU director of marketing and communications.
Defying national trends, the release states YSU enrollment is up 10.7%, rising from 10,993 students to 12,164, the university’s largest enrollment since 2018.
“This outstanding achievement is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our dedicated faculty and staff,” President Bill Johnson said.
YSU’s growth includes an 11.4% increase in undergraduate students and an 8.1% increase in graduate students. Full-time equivalent enrollment also saw a boost, rising by 7.5% compared to Fall 2023, according to the news release.
The number of first-time undergraduate students has increased 13%, with a 25.6% increase in out-of-state students.
The number of new transfer students has risen 106.5%, which includes 475 student transfers from Eastern Gateway Community College, which will officially dissolve Oct. 31, 2024, and a 44% increase in international students.
“Youngstown State University has a distinguished history of delivering exceptional education to students from around the world,” Johnson said. “The increase in out-of-state, international and transfer students is a testament to our growing reputation and our ongoing efforts to provide accessible and innovative educational opportunities”
As part of the enrollment increase, YSU reports a 41% rise in College Credit Plus enrollment among high school students.
The largest increase, however, is a 217.8% upturn in associate degree students.
“The notable rise in College Credit Plus and associate degree enrollments highlights our commitment to making higher education more attainable and relevant,” Johnson said.
“YSU continues to be the anchor institution in Northeast Ohio,” Johnson said, “attracting students from across the state, nation and the world.
“We are continuously broadening our range of educational options to encompass every stage of higher learning.
