Man accused of hitting student near school set for arraignment

YOUNGSTOWN — A Youngstown police crash report released Monday identifies the driver accused of striking a student, 16, near East High School on Friday morning with a vehicle and leaving the scene.

The report states Herman Posey III, 46, of Gladstone Street, was traveling north on Bennington Avenue approaching Parker Street when he struck a student walking near the curb, causing the boy to sustain suspected serious injuries.

The boy was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital by ambulance. He was in stable condition, a Youngstown police news release last week stated.

Police used school safety zone traffic cameras and surveillance cameras to identify the vehicle and then to arrest the driver, the release stated. Posey was arrested and charged with felony fleeing the scene of an accident and misdemeanor driving on a suspended license. If convicted of the felony, Posey could get more than a year in prison.

Posey was due for arraignment on the charges Monday in Youngstown Municipal Court.

Starting at $3.23/week.
