Child finds box with pills, candy

YOUNGSTOWN — A Youngstown police report states that a child encountered a box on the playground near a school on Oak Hill Avenue on Wednesday afternoon that the child thought was candy.

There was candy in the box in addition to an assortment of pills. Police were called to the school at 1400 Oak Hill Ave. after the principal at South Side Academy called police at 1:33 p.m. to say that children told her about the box.

The principal found the box with 90 burgundy capsules in it, 12 white circular pills, 13 white oval pills, one white big oval pill, one pink and purple capsule, one U-Haul lock and bags of “assorted candy.”

The box, which the report called a “tackle box,” was found under a black T-shirt with the words “senior thug” on the back and “O” on the sleeve, the report states. A crack pipe was next to the box.

The principal told police that “they” put the tackle box in a cardboard box and picked it up with a piece of paper but left the crack pipe for officers to remove. All of the items were logged into evidence, the report states.

It’s not clear where the playground for the school is located. But Irma Davis Park, 122 Kenmore Ave., is across Kenmore Avenue from the school.

Starting at $3.23/week.
