Self-defense class dates announced

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Prosecutor’ Office has announced the dates of its next two STOP self-defense courses.

The Poland STOP Class is 5:30 p.m Sept. 10 at the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County — Poland Branch, 311 S. Main Street, Poland. Registration is open.

The Boardman STOP Class is 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at Boardman Township Park’s Lariccia Community Center, Boardman Rotary Room, 375 Boardman Poland Road, Boardman. Registration opens Sept. 20.

STOP is a self-defense trauma-informed outreach program to provide information and teach self-defense tactics to increase the confidence of trainees to avoid and respond to potential conflicts or violent incidents.

The training involves education on local laws and local victim services, and awareness. It is taught by members of the prosecutor’s office and Mercy Health police Chief Ryan Bonacci.
