Hubbard Rotary donates $15K for center upgrades

HUBBARD — The Rotary Club presented a $15,000 check Monday to the Hubbard Youth Coalition to aid in the renovation of the Roosevelt Wellness Center.

The Roosevelt Center was known formerly as the Roosevelt Gymnasium and before that was Roosevelt Elementary School. The renovation effort is being undertaken by the Hubbard Youth Coalition and by donations.

The gymnasium became a wellness center in June after phase one and phase two of construction on the building were completed. The building had to be closed for the first two phases of the project. Although the first two phases of the project have been completed, phase three is underway and phases four and five have yet to be started.

Hubbard Rotary President Molly Auchter said “by enhancing facilities and creating vibrant spaces for people of any age, we foster intergenerational connections and strengthen our community’s future.”

Rotary Secretary Mary Buchenic said the donation will help support community economic development along with health and wellness.

A news release states all Rotary members were excited about the project and its progress, which was executed by the Hubbard Youth Coalition.

Hubbard Youth Coalition President James Chaney expressed gratitude toward the Rotary and all others who have donated.

“Hubbard Rotary’s efforts have a long history of support from our wonderful community,” Rotary member Mike Holdford said.

Chaney said the Loretta Foundation will match him up to $50,000 if he receives a total of $50,000 in donations by the end of September. He said the coalition is $7,600 short of getting that match.
