WARREN — Alta Care Group in Youngstown has been designated the Head Start and Early Head Start programs provider in Trumbull County, taking over the role previously done by Trumbull Community Action Program.

Alta assumed operations at most locations operated by TCAP on Thursday, according to a news release.

For nearly 10 years, Alta has provided Head Start and Early Head Start services at 11 locations in Mahoning County, serving 760 children and their families each year. Now including Trumbull County, Alta has more than 20 locations and serves more than 1,100 children per year.

“We are honored with the trust the Office of Head Start has placed in us at Alta Care Group to expand our operations and continue providing these vital education, health and wellness services to children and families in Trumbull County,” Joe Shorokey, chief executive officer of Alta Care Group, said.

The transition also means new services will soon be available to eligible Trumbull County families, including Early Head Start for infants and toddlers under 3 years old and the Expectant Mothers Program.

“These new programs coupled with our Five Star Step Up to Quality rated services, experienced educational staff, free dental, health and eye exams, as well as coordinated care for additional services such as physical therapy and more, is part of our holistic approach to giving children and families a true head start,” Lori Stellmar, Alta Head Start director, said.
