Youngstown police arrest man in most recent city homicide
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Police Department has arrested Samuel X. Perez, 22, in connection with the most recent homicide in the city.
On June 18, Angel L. Sostre, 22, was found behind a row of apartments on McBride Street on the East Side.
Perez is charged with murder in Youngstown Municipal Court and is expected to be arraigned on the charges today.
A Youngstown Police news release states the police department responded to a call for service Tuesday on Berkeley Avenue and arrested Perez on felony drug charges.
“Acting on intelligence that (Perez) was a person-of-interest” in the Sostre slaying, Perez was taken to the police department’s detective division for questioning. “After a thorough interrogation, review of all evidence, and consultation with” the Youngstown prosecutor’s office, Perez was placed under arrest on a murder charge in Sostre’s death, the release states.
Police were called to the 600 block of McBride Street at 5:42 a.m. June 18 regarding a dead man with gunshot wounds and found Sostre.
The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office recently released the victim’s name. An autopsy was conducted at the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office, according to a coroner’s office news release.
