Liberty prepares for park, road work
LIBERTY — With funding obtained for improvements at Center Park and for road paving, officials are seeking bids to begin work this year.
Road Supervisor Wayne Hickman told trustees at their July 8 meeting that drainage repairs and improvement work will be done at Center Park with $450,000 in American Rescue Plan funds received from Trumbull County commissioners.
He said CT Consultants is doing the engineering and architectural work for the project, which would be completed in 2025. Hickman said 10 roads will be selected for paving and improvements this year with Ohio Public Works Commission funds.
He said work on some roads will begin this year with completion in spring 2025.
The OPWC 2024 paving includes 1.689 miles of road estimated at $422,250, including Haviland Drive and Haviland Circle, Ruth Circle, St. Andrews Drive, Biscayne Avenue, Barth Drive, Belmar Drive, Dade Avenue, Goleta Avenue and Pinehurst Circle.
The work was bid out last week.
He said roads also will be selected for 2025 paving projects based on their conditions.
Fire Chief Doug Theobald told trustees the fire practice trailers from the State Fire Academy, which are used for different purposes, have arrived and will be made available to Liberty firefighters and other fire departments such as Hubbard and Girard.
“We are fortunate that we received two this year to use,” he said.
He said search and rescue training for firefighters will be in August.

• Hired Trevor Willoughby as a full-time probationary emergency medical technician and firefighter.
