Staff report

COLUMBUS — It took a Franklin County jury a little more than 30 minutes to find a man guilty in the Oct. 30, 2022, shooting death of Girard High School graduate and valedictorian Kevin Sobnosky.

Keimaryion Ross, 20, was found guilty on all nine counts he faced, including murder, attempted murder, felonious assault and improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle. The jury deliberated for 37 minutes before returning the verdict. He will be sentenced Sept. 5, according to Franklin County court records.

Sobnosky, 21, was a senior at Youngstown State University and was in Columbus with several friends when they stopped at a Sheetz gas station. Two rival gang members were involved in a shootout and Sobnosky was struck in the back of the head by a stray bullet.

Ross turned himself into police several days after the shooting and has remained jailed since his arrest. In December 2022, Tyyan Sullivan, 19, was arrested for his role in the shooting and he pleaded guilty in August to two of the eight charges he faced. He will serve a nine-to-10.5-year prison sentence for two counts of felonious assault and a gun specification.

In June 2023, police arrested Tommie Wilkerson Jr. for his role in the shooting. His trial is set for Sept. 30.
