Alliance man killed, woman hurt in train incident in Sebring

SEBRING — Michael Lawson Jr., 21, of Alliance, was killed and an unidentified woman was seriously injured after they were struck by a train while walking just before 2 a.m. Monday along Pennsylvania Avenue between 16th and 17 streets.
The woman was in critical condition Monday at Summa Hospital in Akron
The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s post in Canfield stated in a news release that Lawson was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman and Lawson were walking adjacent to the tracks prior to the train approaching. It appears they attempted to cross the tracks before the train struck them, the release states.
Troopers are working to identify the woman, and the incident remains under investigation, the release states. The release states the train was an Amtrak passenger train carrying 136 passengers. None of the occupants of the train were injured.
The incident happened along the Norfolk Southern line, which runs east and west through the village, the release states. The location is a mix of residential properties on one side of Pennsylvania Avenue and industrial property to the south. It is about two blocks south of the Sebring library.
