Accused drunken driver almost hits cruiser
BOARDMAN — A man was arrested on a charge of OVI after nearly hitting a township police cruiser.
Jeremy A. Archie, 38, of Boardman, is due in Mahoning County Boardman Court today on charges of OVI, failure to submit to testing within 20 years of a prior OVI conviction, driving under suspension and running a red light.
The police report states that an officer trying to make a turn onto Midlothian Boulevard from Hillman Way was nearly struck by Archie’s vehicle when Archie allegedly ran the light, then slammed on his brakes, narrowly avoiding the crash.
The incident occurred about 3 a.m. Sunday.
The report states that when the officer requested Archie’s license and insurance, he could not provide a license and dispatchers notified the officer that Archie’s license was suspended through Pennsylvania.
The report states that Archie’s eyes were bloodshot and watery, and the officer detected the smell of alcohol and saw a bottle of mouthwash in the car. The passenger eventually admitted that Archie had “a couple beers.”
The officer administered multiple field sobriety tests, which Archie failed, according to the report. He was then arrested and made to wait for 20 minutes before being offered a breath test, which he refused.
Archie has a prior conviction for OVI from 2014, according to the report. Court records show he also was charged with driving under suspension in 2019, but pleaded guilty to an amended minor misdemeanor count.
His passenger was given a ride home by police. Police were not able to have the vehicle impounded because Archie did not have a valid ID.
