Warren woman sentenced for her role in meth ring

YOUNGSTOWN — A Warren woman federal prosecutors said took part in a Northeast Ohio methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Jennifer DeRosa, 36, was one of five people from Trumbull County charged in a September 2022 indictment that in total implicated eight people. The indictment alleged DeRosa sold meth on three occasions in January 2022.

She was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Cleveland by Judge Christopher A. Boyko.

The other local defendants were Dolan Mitchell Ady, 50, of Kinsman; Markus Eugene Shaw III, 37, of Warren; Joshua M. White, 35, of Warren; and Travis Spithaler, 35, of Warren.

Each defendant in the case is charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to a news release. Some individuals are facing additional charges, including distribution of LSD and charges related to possession of a firearm.

Court records show Shaw took a plea agreement April 10. White accepted a plea deal March 22. They will be sentenced later.

A sentencing date for Spithaler was delayed by at least 30 days at the request of his attorney in anticipation of trial in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. Ady, meanwhile, was sentenced to 10 years and four months in April 2023 after accepting a plea agreement.

The indictment states each conspired to purchase methamphetamine and redistribute it by way of using motels and residences in Trumbull County and Akron to store and sell drugs. Countersurvelliance was conducted by investigators.

An affidavit from an agent with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives stated a Portage County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a Chevrolet pickup truck pulling a white Nissan Sentra on a trailer in the eastbound lane of Interstate 76 on Jan. 2, 2022.

After finding the trailer’s registration to be fictitious, the affidavit stated the deputy and his dog searched the vehicle and found suspected meth from a bookbag in the Sentra’s backseat. Ady and Spithaler were passengers in the pickup, and Spithaler told the deputy the Sentra belonged to him.

Ady told federal agents Spithaler’s vehicle had broken down at a Ravenna gas station Jan. 2.

Ady also admitted to buying a half pound of meth for $2,000 that day from his Akron-based source, and admitted to selling the meth in Trumbull County, the affidavit states. He said he was getting the drug in half-pound quantities every two to three days beginning toward the end of 2021, the affidavit states.

Also named in the indictment were Christen Tate Oakman, 27; Shaquille Michael Haskell, 31; and Robert Russell Boring, 32, all of Akron.

The last court filing for Oakman on May 13 states he was potentially accepting a plea with his defense counsel visiting him at Northeast Ohio Correction Center. But the document states Oakman was stabbed at the center, causing him to be hospitalized for the “foreseeable future.” A 30-day continuance was granted, the court document states.

Boring accepted a plea agreement in November 2023, but a sentencing date has yet to be scheduled.

Haskell accepted a plea agreement in December 2023. He is scheduled to be sentenced July 16.
