WHAT: Village council meeting Wednesday
PRESENT: Sean Schmidt, John Metzinger, Kyle Joynes, Chad Jones, Don Smith and Mayor Ray Lewis
ABSENT: Kerry Reckard
Council:
• Announced the community room on Ohio Avenue would be available as a cooling site for residents 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fire officials said they would be available to assist if someone needed after 3 p.m.
• Heard from Administrator Tom Domitrovich about a grant he is seeking from Eastgate Regional Council of Governments for street work and a traffic study in 2025 of Sixth and Seventh streets and Nebraska, Utah and Dakota avenues.
• Heard from Lewis the village is seeking up to $50,000 in federal funds for upgrades for computers, cameras and Wi-Fi hotspots. He said officials will meet with KO Consulting, which does grant writing services.
• Heard from Lewis that Team Fishel has been contacted to make repairs to residential property damage when fiber optic utility lines were installed.
• Heard from Jones there will be no farmers market this summer, but a mobile market will come to the village July 20 and giveaway vouchers to residents.
• Heard from police Lt. Ryan Ronghi about grants through the Ohio Attorney General’s Office for three police vests with a 75% reimbursement.
• Were informed that Heidi Hoffman, park supervisor, has started a Woodland Park activities site on TikTok for informational purposes and advertising of events only. There will be no comments allowed.
• Heard from fire Chief Fred Marcum there has been an increase in ambulance transports this year due to more mutual aid to Liberty, Girard and Weathersfield. He said to date there have been 112 transports compared to 81 at this same time last year.
• Approved hiring Curtis Flaviani of Niles as a full-time police officer effective July 1.
• Approved hiring Kenneth Jones as a firefighter / paramedic and Nicholas Waldo as a firefighter / emergency medical technician effective today.
• Approved the appointment of Tom Senich to the planning commission to replace Dave Clawson.
