Several Mahoning Valley locations seem to part of Bon Secours Mercy Health, Compassus joint venture

WARREN — A partnership that has Compassus, a Tennessee-based health care provider, taking over management control of several of Bon Secours Mercy Health’s home and hospice facilities appears to include some in the Mahoning Valley.

A joint venture agreement between the medical systems has Compassus assuming management over 10 home health agencies and 11 hospice operations that serve patients in 10 states, including Ohio.

According to the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office, five companies were formed April 5: Compassus BSHM Youngstown HHA Holdco LLC; Compassus BSHM Youngstown HHA LLC; Compassus BSHM Youngstown Hospice Holdco LLC; Compassus BSHM Youngstown Hospice LLC; and Compassus BSHM Youngstown LLC.

Compassus’ website shows the company has home health care and hospice services on Tibbetts Wick Road in Girard and a hospice location on Sherrott Road in Poland.

The website also shows Compassus’ home and hospice care location in Lima provides services in Trumbull and Mahoning counties.

A Mercy Health spokeswoman, when asked in an email Wednesday which locations are in the Mahoning Valley, responded that the system engaged Compassus for an answer. This newspaper did not receive a response as of 6 p.m.

Under the agreement, home health and hospice care will be administered as part of the partnership. Bon Secours Mercy Health will maintain ownership of its existing hospice house real estate assets while Compassus will manage operations in specific locations, according to a news release.

“We recognize the changing health care landscape and the desire of more patients to have flexible care options, including care in the home,” Don Kline, chief operating officer of Bon Secours Mercy Health, said. “Bon Secours Mercy Health is proud to provide patients and families with comprehensive care options for every stage of life and look forward to continuing to meet their needs through our partnership with Compassus.”

Said Laura Templeton, chief operating officer for Compassus, the health care providers will “support continuity of care while providing patients and families with options to receive hospice and home health at home or in residential care facilities.”

Bon Secours Mercy Health “is an innovator and leader in care, which makes this joint venture an ideal partnership. As mission-aligned organizations, we are committed to upholding the high standards of care that BSMH patients are accustomed to and that Compassus is known for across the country,” Templeton said.
