Youngstown police respond to active-shooter hoax at Harding Elementary School

YOUNGSTOWN — Police responded in force to a Youngstown elementary school Tuesday afternoon after a prank call.

Youngstown City School District spokesperson Stacy Quinones said the Youngstown Police Department sent a tactical team to Harding Elementary on the city’s North Side after someone falsely reported an active shooter.

Quinones called the prank “irresponsible and dangerous.”

Superintendent Jeremy Batchelor said the prank occurred in the afternoon and briefly delayed dismissal for the day while police cleared and checked the building.

He said the district is working with police to find out who is responsible. “We are working with law enforcement to determine who made the call,” he said, “and if we can determine who it was, they will be prosecuted.”
