Twin sisters accused of shooting at six people on West Side

YOUNGSTOWN — Twin sisters Lisa D. Springs and Andrea H. Springs, 20, both of the same apartment on Tyrell Avenue, were indicted Thursday on six counts of felonious assault, each with three-year firearm specifications and five-year drive-by-shooting specifications.

Investigators said Andrea Springs fired several shots at a car in the 2600 block of Tyrell Avenue on the West Side March 16. There were six people inside the car that was targeted, including four children.

The incident happened at 1:41 p.m. Police said it stemmed from an argument over a man. Lisa D. Springs was allegedly with her sister in their car. The Springs sisters lived in those apartments, according to their address in court records.

When police arrived, a juvenile told police his aunt was shot. Officers asked the juvenile to take them to her. He took them to the 2400 block of Tyrell Avenue, where the woman was in the passenger seat of the car with a man in the driver’s seat and juveniles in the back seat.

The woman told police she had been shot in the foot and wanted medical attention. An ambulance was already at the apartment complex and took the woman for treatment.

If the Springs sisters were to be convicted of the offenses, each woman could get more than 50 years in prison. Both women remain in the Mahoning County jail in lieu of a $300,000 bond.

Their bonds were set in Youngstown Municipal Court, and their cases were bound over to a county grand jury from Youngstown Municipal Court on April 3.

The drive-by specifications in their indictments state that both women purposely or knowingly attempted to cause the death of or physical harm to another person and that the offense was committed by discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle.
