WHAT: Trustees meeting April 16

PRESENT: Dave Tomaino, Wendy DiBernardi and Edward Villone

Trustees:

● Heard from fire Chief Kenneth Oles that he had a mandatory meeting with the duty crew and volunteers. Oles said he wanted to make sure everyone understood his expectations of them.

● Approved Oles’ request to send David Metzger to paramedic school at a cost of $6,500. With its approval, Metzger is locked into a three-year contract with the township.

● Approved Oles’ request to get the fire department’s heater and foyer working at a cost of $731.

● Heard from Oles that Rescue 500 is at Fallsway getting service. According to Oles, the vehicle’s brakes failed in the parking lot. The cost is unknown, as they plan on fully inspecting the vehicle for any other safety issues.

● Heard from police Chief Charles VanDyke that the department’s phone project will be completed by April 25.

● Heard from VanDyke that 2024’s Continuing Professional Training was ordered by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission at a minimum of 24 hours, with eight hours being made mandatory of legal update, mitigation, response to mental health issues and victim rights.

● Approved officer Justin Binkiewiez’s resignation. VanDyke and trustees thanked him for his time and dedication to the township and wished him well.

● Heard from VanDyke that the department received one of the 25 ballistic shields from $250,000 in ARP money approved by the Mahoning County commissioners for police equipment and training.

● Heard from VanDyke that Milton will be hosting this year’s Safety Day noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 10. VanDyke said multiple activities are planned throughout the event, such as a dunk tank for the school’s resource officer.

● Accepted a $50 donation and card from Lake Milton Women’s League’s president.

● Approved Ohio Association of Public Treasurers membership for Fiscal Officer Lisa Balsinger.

● Approved pursuing Tri-Area Electric’s bid of $132,343 for the township’s Mahoning Avenue lighting project.

● Proclaimed April 30 National Therapy Animal Day.

● Approved payment of township’s fire accident and health policy totaling $9,430. Balsinger explained the policy covers volunteer fire department members and is paid every three years.

● Set a reminder that the next meeting will be at the fire hall at 7 p.m. May 21.
