‘Gracious’ Olive Arms married Wilford P. Arms

125 years ago in 1899, transcribed as originally published in the Youngstown Vindicator:

In Society. Marriage of Miss Olive Arms and Mr. Wilford P. Arms. Loftus-Gorman nuptials. Celebrated this morning in St. Columba’s Church – other items of interest.

Charmingly simple was the marriage of Miss Olive Arms, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. D. [Charles Dayton and Hannah] Arms, and Mr. Wilford P. Arms, which occurred this afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, at the Arms mansion on Wick Avenue. On account of a recent bereavement, as well as in accordance with the usual modesty of the bride, simplicity was the dominant feature in the appointments, white and green being the favored colors. None save the immediate families were asked to the service, at which Dr. D. H. Evans, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiated.

The library was the apartment chosen for the exchange of promises, and it was adorned with Easter lilies and white roses. A dainty arrangement of asparagus, lilies and roses designated the spot selected, and thither the bride and groom directed their steps at the appointed hour. The bride was gowned in a neatly fashioned traveling outfit.

Congratulations were followed by a wedding collation and later Mr. and Mrs. Arms departed on an eastern bridal excursion. Returning, they will take up their residence on Bryson Street. A collection of elegant gifts attested the hearty good wishes of many friends.

Mr. Arms is one of Youngstown’s successful business men whose manly qualifications at once command attention. He has won for his bride a most gracious, refined and pleasing young woman.
