Man pleads not guilty
Found with 60 grams of suspected drugs
WEATHERSFIELD — A man pleaded not guilty to a drug possession case from 2022 on Monday after police said he was found with more than 60 grams of drugs during a routine traffic stop.
Oshai Dukes appeared in Warren Municipal Court for an arraignment after being picked up late last week by Weathersfield police.
A patrolman pulled Dukes over after he had been driving 18 mph over the speed limit, according to a police report. After Dukes told officers he did not own the car or have a driver’s license, they discovered he was wanted for a felony drug possession warrant out of Warren.
Dukes told police he had a firearm, which was taken by officers as evidence.
Police then discovered eight cellophane bags, a plastic jar and one vacuum-sealed bag that contained a “green leafy-like substance associated with marijuana,” the police report states.
Officers also found a black trash bag with 52.75 grams of “suspected” mushrooms and a plastic container with an unknown brown crystal-type substance. Police say both will be tested by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Several other items, including a book bag with a digital scale, parchment paper, plastic sandwich bags and $22.65 also were discovered.
Dukes is facing charges of drug trafficking, speeding, no operator’s license, having weapons under disability, carrying concealed weapons, improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle and drug paraphernalia.
